**PRESS RELEASE FROM HCHS ATHLETICS**
More information will follow about these developments and the upcoming transition.
Houston Christian is pleased to announce that it will join the SPC beginning with the academic year 2012-2013. The Southwest Preparatory Conference ("SPC") is one of the nation's oldest and most distinctive secondary school athletic conferences. Established in 1952, the conference has grown in both membership and number of sports offered. Today the conference represents 18 of the finest college preparatory schools in the nation. These schools are spread over Texas and Oklahoma and provide competition in 21 different sports. (www.spcsports.org)
Over the past few years, and also through the recent ISAS accreditation process, HC has always been committed to providing an exemplary athletic experience for all student-athletes. This move is an integral step in this process and was made after careful consideration, with the intention of providing Mustangs with the right kind of competition and visibility they deserve.
During its 14 years of membership in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools ("TAPPS"), HC has enjoyed a strong relationship with TAPPS and recognizes its important role across our state. As an early and founding member of TAPPS, HC experienced success, winning state championships in choir, band, orchestra, swimming, baseball, and basketball.
The administration is grateful to the many people who have worked behind the scenes to make this move possible. HC salutes the coaches, directors, faculty, staff, and parents who tirelessly work to support athletics and mentor young athletes to grow and mature as a result of their participation.
Membership in the SPC is part of an ongoing commitment to excellence. In addition to athletics, HC provides students with the facilities, faculty and programs which allow them to reach their greatest promise. To that end, HC is working toward the completion of a state-of-the-art Student Center in the months to come.
