WHITECAPS SIT ATOP REGION 14 – SOUTH ZONE

Three weeks of NJCAA play are in the books and Galveston College finds themselves atop Region 14 and the South Zone at (7-1) (5-1) dropping only one contest to conference foe Alvin this past weekend. Leading all of Region 14 in runs scored, the Whitecaps have been crossing the pay station at a record pace racking up 72 runs in 8 games while only logging 1 long-ball.

GC slides in at the #2 spot in Region 14 hitting with a team batting average of .327 and third in least number of strikeouts (36). Old school baseball is back; (making contact, hit & run, sacrificing, moving the runners over and along) is spelling success for the Whitecaps thru 3 weeks of play.  GC’s success at the plate is in large part due to their 3 hitters in the Region 14 top 10 individual hitting; (Fr.) Jesus Garcia - (.480 Region / .550 Zone), (So.) Chris Navarro - (.458 Region / .353 Zone), and (So.) Rande Revilla – (.438 Region / .438 Zone) have been leading the charge scoring a combined 25 runs, driving in a combined 24 runs while drawing a combined 16 BB in 65 AB.

In South Zone hitting GC lands 3 in the top 10 also, Garcia, Revilla, and (Fr.) Brian Cruz - .368 in 19AB, with 5 runs scored.

On Friday Feb 17, the Whitecaps will open a three game South Zone series with the Wharton Pioneers (5-7) (5-4), at home for game 1 (9-inn) - Noon, and will travel to Wharton – 1PM, for a 7 inning game 2 and 9 inning game 3, on Saturday.
